Android Mobile Application for capturing real-time GPS and speed information.

The Client

Moto 360 is a racing school review web site targeting motorsports enthusiasts.

The Opportunity

The client engaged DSS to develop an Android application that will capture driving experiences on a smartphone and provides a playback option with GPS data.

Execution

The DSS team worked with the client to understand the vision for the application. The Application spec and screen mock ups were produced initially.

The feedback from the client after this initial phase –

“The app theme looks fantastic! Very clean, very professional and fits perfectly with my vision and future plans. I’m fine with this theme 110%”

We then got into the Android Application development. The app was to be test and optimized for the most popular Android device screen resolution type, WVGA854 (480x854).

The Android Application

The Dashcam Android app is designed to be used on a mobile device mounted on car’s dashboard. It can record the driver’s view with speed info on race tracks. The application uses the android device’s camera mounted on the dashboard of the car facing forward and captures a video while driving. The phone’s GPS capability is utilized to determine speed and shows the speed on the video view at the recording mode and play back mode. The App has been successfully launched in the Android Marketplace and is generating good reviews. The next phase of the project is to develop an accompanying desktop application.
